Uninscribed

Uninscribed.  Lacking lettering where it is intended; a medallic item yet to be engraved or inscribed with, say, a recipient's name and/or other lettering as event, date, or such. An uninscribed cartouche is a blank panel or reserve within a frame for later inscribing. Some award medals are issued uninscribed for the recipient to arrange for his or her own engraving. Stock medals are, of course, uninscribed prior to being issued.
