Vandalized
Vandalized. A medal or coin which has been subjected to a malicious and unthinking act, as the grinding off of lettering or detail or the removal of the name of the recipient. A few recipients of decorations and award medals may feel compelled to remove their names when they dispose of their medals; as if embarassed that prosperity should know that they had won such an award. Vandalizing is a destruction of some aspect of the surface; it obviously lowers both condition and collector valuation. See also graffiti, OBLITERATED.
