Wet Wheel
Wet Wheel. A finishing process in which a slurry of pumice (or other abrasive) and water is washed over a medal's surface after it has been oxidized. The wet wheel is a muslin cloth buffing wheel which relieves the oxidized surface on the high points and fields in this wet state as the medal is rotated by hand under the wheel. The medal is then washed in clear water, then dried.
