The Bank of South Carolina as a private unincorporated bank commenced business in Charleston by April 1792 and its bank notes were made acceptable at the Charleston Office of Discount and Deposit of the Bank of the United States (first bank) on Aug. 28, 1792. The notes were issued in South Carolina pounds. Engraved. Signed by Thomas Jones as president and T. H. Bacot as cashier. Other denominations are probable.
