Early Paper Money of America / New Jersey / 1768 November 1 Hibernia Furnace

Bills payable in “light money” at a rate of 8s per ounce. The furnace was built in 1765 near Rockaway, Morris County by Samuel Ford who became a notorious paper money counterfeiter. Arms contain harp and FURNACE, ornaments and type similar to those previously used by James Parker for official Colony issues. Notes had blank backs. Other denominations are probable.
