Early Paper Money of America / New Hampshire / 1717 May 20 redated 1717
£500 in indented Bills of Credit with the date “1717” added below “1714” on the May 20, 1717 small plate was apparently printed in 1722 to anticipate the replacement of worn out bills of the May 20, 1717 issue. Authorization was not granted until the Jan. 7, 1725/26 Order, which provided for replacement of bills printed after 1715. The first bills printed after 1715 were the original May 20, 1717 issue. The wording was intended to coordinate with the 1722 Resolutions for replacement of bills printed prior to 1716. The addition of 1717 was to distinguish the replacement issue from all other issues. Of this issue £200 was spent on Dec. 3, 1726 instead of being held for exchange purposes. Monogram GR on back. Signers were John Gilman, Thomas Lukor, and Joseph Smith.
