Early Paper Money of America / New York / 1709 November 1 Shilling Issue

£4,000 (14,545 “Lyon Dollars”) in indented Bills of Credit approved by the Nov. 1, 1709 Act and receivable for taxes with 2½% interest. Interest was subsequently revoked. Silver ducatoons of Holland (Leeuwendaalder) were popularly referred to in English as “Lyon Dollars” because of their rampant lion insignia. Same general form as the May 31, 1709 issue. Printed by William Bradford. Signers were Johannes DePeyster, Johannes Jansen, Robert Lurting, and Robert Walter.
