| Description | 1803 C-2 R4. PCGS graded AU-55 Brown. Lightly cleaned, now retoned a glossy golden light brown and tan with bluish steel and sea-green overtones. There is a small spot of reddish-brown toning at D-S and a very tiny planchet striation in the drapery folds above the 3 in the date. E-MDS, Manley state 3.0, with fine die cracks through the legend on the reverse but no cud breaks. A sharp, attractive example of this rare variety in spite of the retoning. Our grade is EF45+ net EF40+. Finest known. Listed first in the Breen/Hanson census as "Extremely Fine." Plated in the Breen encyclopedia to illustrate the variety (large photos on page 216) and on page 42 in the second edition of the Cohen book for the same purpose. Listed in the Breen/Hanson condition census on page 217 in the encyclopedia. The attribution and Missouri Cabinet provenance are shown on the PCGS label.
