1884 5C Five-Cent Piece, Judd-1725, Pollock-1935, R.7, PR64+ Cameo NGC. Design. An annular (ring-shaped) pattern featuring a circle of 13 stars on the obverse surrounded by UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the date, 1884, below. An octagonal perforation is in the center. The reverse exhibits FIVE above and CENTS below separated by a small shield on the right and left. Struck in aluminum with a plain edge. Commentary. The central hole or perforation on the five cents pattern had an octagonal shape. These annular patterns were produced about a quarter-century after similar gold dollar patterns of the 1850s. The combined population data of NGC and PCGS shows that 16 submissions have been graded. Physical Description. A wonderful strike is evident on all design elements of this Choice Cameo proof.
