1871 25C PR67 S Cameo NGC. CAC. The proof Seated quarters of 1871 saw a mintage of some 960 pieces, apparently all distributed in silver proof sets throughout the year. The Newman Collection coin is another fully struck, essentially impeccable proof example. The central obverse shows a bit more golden color and no silvery area remaining, with the pale pastel-blue toning a tad lighter than on some of the earlier Seated quarter proofs. The reverse shows lovely iridescent patina consistent with many of its counterparts from the 1860s-1870s, and the cameo contrast is generous and undeniable throughout both sides. Census: 4 in 67 (1 in 67 S) Cameo, 0 finer (10/13). Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
