1814 10C Large Date MS65 NGC. CAC. JR-3, R.2. Ex: "Col." E.H.R. Green. A substantial mintage of 421,500 Capped Bust dimes was produced in 1814, with five die varieties known for the date. On this specimen, the curl extends to the right edge of the second 1 in the date and there is no period after the C in the denomination, identifying the JR-3 variety. The JR-3 is most often seen in the VF-XF grade ranges. This impressive Gem displays vibrant mint luster and vivid shades of champagne-gold and violet toning, with most of the color at the rims. The design elements are well-detailed and some interesting clash marks are evident in the obverse fields, but no mentionable signs of contact are evident. Census: 18 in 65, 16 finer (10/13). Ex: "Colonel" E.H.R. Green; Green Estate; Partnership of Eric P. Newman / B.G. Johnson d.b.a. St. Louis Stamp & Coin Co.; Eric P. Newman @ $7.50; Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
