1889 25C PR68 S Cameo NGC. The year 1889 would see the last low-mintage production for circulation strikes in the Seated quarter series, at 12,000 coins, as the following year would see an uptick to 80,000 pieces. The proof complement for 1889 was a nominal 711 examples. The Newman Collection specimen is certified PR68 S Cameo, with the vivid patina on both sides, more apparent on the obverse, that characterizes so many of the splendid Seated quarter proofs in this offering. The Star designation for superior eye appeal is well-deserved by this Eric P. Newman example. There is nothing like careful, loving storage and preservation for 70+ years to bring out the best in a coin. Like many in this collection, it is sure to spur frenzied bidding on the part of those competing for them. Census: 2 in 68 (1 in 68 S), 0 finer (10/13). Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
