1846 50C Medium Date MS65+ NGC. CAC. WB-102. Ex: "Col." E.H.R. Green. NGC has certified only one 1846 Medium Date half dollar as MS65+, and with the Plus designation, this is the finest graded by NGC. It rightfully earned its place as the plate coin for NGC's 1846 Medium Date half dollar on Coin Explorer. This Medium Date variety shows an errant 6 in the date and was previously termed an 1846/5. The surfaces of this half dollar display lustrous, silvery fields with wonderful blue-gray, gold, and amber peripheral toning. The obverse has a horizontal die crack along the base of the date and the reverse has a die clash on the lower-right of the shield. This is a wonderful coin that deserves inclusion in a high-grade collection. Census: 7 in 65 (1 in 65+), 3 finer (10/13). Ex: "Colonel" E.H.R. Green; Green Estate; Partnership of Eric P. Newman / B.G. Johnson d.b.a. St. Louis Stamp & Coin Co.; Eric P. Newman @ $6.00; Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
