1897 50C PR68 Ultra Cameo NGC. CAC. Ex: "Col." E.H.R. Green. The trio of years from 1896 through 1898 are responsible for a high percentage of Cameo, Deep/Ultra Cameo, and just plain high-grade, well-produced proof coins. This 1897 sits squarely in the middle of those three years, and this piece is an excellent representative of the quality proofs the Mint could produce. Only the rims display light golden toning. The devices are well-frosted and display sharp contrast against the glassy mirroring in the fields. Census: 14 in 68 (1 in 68 S), 1 finer (10/13). Ex: "Colonel" E.H.R. Green; Green Estate; Partnership of Eric P. Newman / B.G. Johnson d.b.a. St. Louis Stamp & Coin Co.; Eric P. Newman @ $12.50; Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
