Service Catalog # 6583
Denomination 50C
Description 1921 50C MS65+ NGC. CAC. The 1921 Walking Liberty half dollar claims the second-lowest business-strike mintage of the series, at a mere 246,000 pieces. Both of the branch mint half dollar production totals were also low in 1921, undoubtedly because of the huge mintage of Morgan dollars mandated by the provisions of the 1918 Pittman Act. The 1921 is one of the rarest Walking Liberty half dollars in absolute terms, but a few high-quality examples, like the present coin, were saved by contemporary collectors. This high-end Gem is sharply detailed for an early series issue, with clear separation between Liberty's thumb and finger on the wreath hand. Radiant mint luster is evident on both sides and the well-preserved surfaces display accents of sea-green and lavender toning. Census: 34 in 65 (1 in 65+), 2 finer (10/13). Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society. Realized $28,200.00 . Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions, ha.com.
