Description 1818/7 50C Small 8 MS63 NGC. CAC. O-102a, R.2. Ex: "Col." E.H.R. Green. One of three overdated die pairs of 1818. The O-101 and O-103 have large 8's in the date. Only the O-102 comes with small 8s. In all grades it is more difficult to locate than its Large 8 brethren. This coin shows the partially filled upper loop in the second 8 that indicates the late die state O-102a. This marvelous Select Mint State example features booming luster throughout. The centers are untoned; the peripheries enjoy electric rings of gold and turquoise, thanks to repose in a Wayte Raymond album. Census: 12 in 63, 17 finer (10/13). Ex: "Colonel" E.H.R. Green; Green Estate; Partnership of Eric P. Newman / B.G. Johnson d.b.a. St. Louis Stamp & Coin Co.; Eric P. Newman @ $2.50; Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society. Realized $12,337.50 .
