1818 50C MS62 NGC. O-108, R.1. Ex: "Col." E.H.R. Green. Overton's "pincer 8s" variety, caused by a defect on the upper center of the number punch. Walnut-brown and ocean-blue toning fills the margins of this otherwise brilliant silver type coin. Marks are confined to minor ticks on Liberty's neck, though we note a series of light drift marks (imperfections in the planchet, elongated by the rolling machine) on the lower reverse. This die pair is occasionally seen with inverted edge lettering. The Newman coin has normal edge letters. Ex: "Colonel" E.H.R. Green; Green Estate; Partnership of Eric P. Newman / B.G. Johnson d.b.a. St. Louis Stamp & Coin Co.; Eric P. Newman @ $3.00; Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
