1827 50C Square Base 2 MS63 NGC. O-138, R.4. Ex: "Col." E.H.R. Green. Uncirculated O-138s are rare and worthy of a hefty premium over the multitude of common Square Base 2 die pairs. This well-detailed Select specimen displays deep shades of gray, lavender, and champagne-gold patina, with exceptionally deep and vibrant underlying mint luster. A scattering of minor contact marks prevents an even higher grade. Stephen Herrman's list of auction appearances includes three MS64 examples, allowing this coin to claim a spot in the Condition Census. Ex: "Colonel" E.H.R. Green; Green Estate; Partnership of Eric P. Newman / B.G. Johnson d.b.a. St. Louis Stamp & Coin Co.; Eric P. Newman @ $3.00; Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
