1842 50C Medium Date, Large Letters MS64+ NGC. CAC. WB-105, FS-301. Ex: "Col." E.H.R. Green. Very attractive silvery gray and green toning is seen overall with light blue highlights. Only a few tiny marks can be found in the right obverse field and above the eagle on the reverse field. This variety has the digits 842 slightly repunched north, one above the other three times. The reverse of this half dollar displays interesting and extensive die cracks, including a rim cud above the A(MERICA), typical of this die marriage. NGC has certified a scant seven examples of this variety with only one in a higher grade; and that higher graded coin is in the next lot. Very rare in this high level of preservation, and a desirable variety for the specialist. Ex: "Colonel" E.H.R. Green; Green Estate; Partnership of Eric P. Newman / B.G. Johnson d.b.a. St. Louis Stamp & Coin Co.; Eric P. Newman @ $15.00; Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
