Description 1845 50C MS64+ NGC. WB-101. CAC. Ex: "Col." E.H.R. Green. NGC has certified only one 1845 half dollar as MS64+; this is it and it is also the plate coin from NGC's 1845 half dollar Coin Explorer. This coin displays wonderful concentric rings of blue and amber toning with minimal field abrasions. This particular reverse die shows rust along the lower serifs of the letters in UNITED, characteristic of this die on multiple marriages. The eagle's lower leg is weakly struck and there are Mint-made planchet roller lines (the diagonal lines) across the lower left portion of the eagle. Die clashing is evident on the lower right of the reverse shield. A beautiful example of this date. Ex: "Colonel" E.H.R. Green; Green Estate; Partnership of Eric P. Newman / B.G. Johnson d.b.a. St. Louis Stamp & Coin Co.; Eric P. Newman @ $7.50; Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society. Realized $16,450.00 . Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions, ha.com.
