1847 50C MS63 NGC. WB-101. Ex: "Col." E.H.R. Green. The 1847 half dollar is scarce in mint condition, especially so for a coin with a mintage in excess of 1.1 million pieces. To date, NGC has only certified four other pieces in MS63 (another is in the EPN holdings), and a mere 11 coins are finer (9/13). This is a remarkably attractive half dollar whose centers are nearly brilliant. The margins are surrounded by thin rings of russet and deep blue patina. The strike is strong throughout and the abrasions that are present are consistent with the grade. Ex: "Colonel" E.H.R. Green; Green Estate; Partnership of Eric P. Newman / B.G. Johnson d.b.a. St. Louis Stamp & Coin Co.; Eric P. Newman @ $5.00; Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
