1853 50C Arrows and Rays MS63 NGC. CAC. WB-101. Ex: "Col." E.H.R. Green. Both sides were redesigned in 1853 to alert the public of a weight reduction that was necessary to ensure subsidiary coinage would once again actually circulate rather than be melted for its greater intrinsic value. This is a brightly lustrous example that shows slightly variegated gray-blue toning over each side with much mint brightness still in evidence. Sharply struck, except at the top of the obverse. Ex: "Colonel" E.H.R. Green; Green Estate; Partnership of Eric P. Newman / B.G. Johnson d.b.a. St. Louis Stamp & Coin Co.; Eric P. Newman @ $6.00; Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
