1876-CC 50C MS65 NGC. WB-103, Die Pair WB-36, R.4. Ex: "Col." E.H.R. Green. This interesting variety has the top of an 8 previously punched in the dentils below the date. The upper loop of the 8 shows plainly in the dentils. The reverse die shows extensive die cracks, notably through the legend and there is a radial die line from the dentils to the (D)O(L). In the top grades (MS65 to MS68), NGC has certified only 18 1876-CC half dollars, and three of them are in this sale. This half dollar has wonderfully attractive steel-blue and amber toning over highly lustrous surfaces. The strike is strong throughout and the fields and devices are remarkably abrasion-free. An impressive and desirable Gem Carson City half dollar. Ex: "Colonel" E.H.R. Green; Green Estate; Partnership of Eric P. Newman / B.G. Johnson d.b.a. St. Louis Stamp & Coin Co.; Eric P. Newman @ $5.00; Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
