1886 50C PR66 Cameo NGC. WB-101. Ex: "Col." E.H.R. Green. It is curious that the availability of Cameo and even high-grade proofs varies from year to year. The 1886 half dollar has a similar (but slightly lower) mintage of both proofs and circulation strikes compared to the 1885, yet it is far less available in high grades and with Cameo contrast. This high-grade proof displays much central brilliance with an off-center arc of deep russet-brown on the lower left obverse rim; elsewhere toning is only observed on the outer reaches of the coin. Sharply contrasted and fully struck. Census: 8 in 66 Cameo (1 in 66 S Cameo), 3 finer (9/13). Ex: "Colonel" E.H.R. Green; Green Estate; Partnership of Eric P. Newman / B.G. Johnson d.b.a. St. Louis Stamp & Coin Co.; Eric P. Newman @ $10.00; Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
