1871 10C AU55 NGC. CAC. Although the mintage of dimes at Philadelphia in 1871 consisted of 906,750 examples, nearly double that of the previous year, there are few survivors at the upper grade levels. A tan-gray patina blankets both sides of this choice AU example, with hints of gold and green emerging. Minor incompleteness of strike is noted, along with a few hair thin marks on the obverse. Census: 3 in 55, 47 finer (9/13). Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
