Mint Mark O
Description 1860-O 50C AU58 NGC. CAC. WB-104. This reverse die is colorfully named "Eagle Laying Egg" because the mintmark was punched adjacent to the lower stem and tailfeather of the eagle. The 1860-O half dollar issue was the last Seated half production strictly under federal authority. The 1861-O was produced by the U.S. government, Louisiana after secession, and Louisiana as part of the CSA. New Orleans would make no more half dollars until the Barbers of 1892. Gold, red, and yellow hues are predominant on both sides of this attractive near-Mint example. Scattered splashes of green and blue appear on the reverse near portions of the rim. Adding to the eye appeal, the design elements retain a pleasing level of detail. A few hair-thin marks appear on each side. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society. Realized $1,351.25 .
