1846-O $2 1/2 AU58 NGC. CAC. Variety 1. Ex: "Col." E.H.R. Green. A substantial increase in the production of quarter eagles from 4,000 coins in 1845 to 62,000 pieces in 1846 speaks to the relative availability of this New Orleans issue in lower circulated grades. Near-Mint representatives, however, are very scarce, and NGC has certified only 24 submissions in higher grades (8/14). The CAC approval sticker attests to the quality of this example. The surfaces display natural orange and green-gold patina with substantial luster remaining. A typical strike lends softness to Liberty's hair curls and the eagle's left (facing) leg, but marks are minimal and the overall eye appeal is undeniable. Ex: "Colonel" E.H.R.
