Fayetteville, AR - Branch of the Bank of the State of Arkansas at Fayetteville $50 Jan. 8, 1839 AR-10 G148 Rothert 186-4. PCGS Very Fine 30. A much rarer $50 demand note from this branch. Superb grade and wonderful style by Rawdon, Wright, Hatch & Edson. The vignettes are classic American: top center, a spotted cow; left, within a circle, several rural women at rest with their milk pails. At right is the quintessential image of Long Island Farmer Husking Corn, as adapted from William Sydney Mount's painting (1833-34) and used on several Obsolete banks from this imprint. This lovely example is the Arkansas Notes and Scrip book plate note. Eric P. Newman was a keen contributor to this standard reference on the state's Obsolete notes. It is hard to imagine a finer example of this rarity that has the cachet of a Rothert Arkansas plate note. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
