||Tallahassee, FL - Territory of Florida $2 June 1, 1830 Cr.T9 Benice 7. PCGS Choice New 63 Apparent. A very scarce note from the second territorial series printed from the engraved plates by N. & S.S. Jocelyn, New Haven. Among the Criswell-Shull listed Southern States issues, it is quite distinctive due to its early, 1830-period dates, and engraved style. Top center, an allegorical female pours a jug of water on the shore. Plenty is shown at the left end in a small circle; at the right end, a cursive TWO is upon a vertical lathe panel. Note the low serial number 13; however, Ron Benice interestingly comments that there were seven number 1 notes known to him when he published his book. The exact rarity of Florida Territory notes in collectors' hands is difficult to determine, but approximately 20-40 notes of each denomination are known, with the overall quality of this Newman Collection piece ranking above the norm. The back is endorsed by the auditor, noted Apparent with "Paper Toned; Minor Mounting Remnants on Back." Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
