||Chicago, IL - Marine Bank of Chicago $5 Sept. 1, 1863 IL-165 UNL. PCGS Very Fine 20. This later series note was fully issued during the Civil War. Like those above, this third denomination displays gorgeous nautical-themed vignettes. They were originally engraved by Toppan, Carpenter & Casilear, but this later plate has the imprint of the American Banknote Company. At the top, a paddlewheel steamer and other ships. At the left end are three female allegorical figures; Hope and Navigation are the most prominent. Red protector FIVE is across. Beautifully margined and in superb condition for such a rarity.
