Description Greenville, IL - Franklin Bank $5 18__ IL-345 G4 SENC. PCGS Very Choice New 64 Apparent. This is another striking and extremely rare proof from the Newman Collection. A very relevant vignette complements the title. Upper left, a large and rarely encountered vignette shows young Benjamin Franklin working with his composing stick at his upper and lower type cases. Above the straight title, female Science reclines with a globe and sextant. Technically, this is an essay proof for the issued notes, which used a red protector scheme (the only example we know of is ex: Schingoethe Collection); we have not seen another, and this is possibly unique. Hole Punch Cancelled, with an Apparent designation due to some "Minor Stains" which we would emphasize as inconsequential compared to the rarity and beauty of this example. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society. Realized $2,820.00. Newman VI (Heritage Auctions, 4/2015), lot 19046. Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions.
