Denomination
Description Newton, IL - Eastern Bank of Illinois $1 November 1, 1860 IL-605 G2a. Proof. PCGS Choice About New 58. This National Banknote Company imprint, a full orange tinted proof, is spectacular to behold. At top center, an eagle with wide-span wings is cupped into the right side of a curved title. At lower left is George Washington. Intricate die and color lathe patterns are across the note that were created by the Cyrus Durand patented devices. Extremely rare, this denomination is not illustrated in Haxby, although it is priced in that reference. Hole Punch Cancelled through the India paper and mounted on cardstock. Eye appeal is spectacular, and only some faint handling is seen. This example shows the striking appearance of a Gem. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society. Realized $3,290.00. Newman VI (Heritage Auctions, 4/2015), lot 19050. Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions.
