Sullivan, IL - Alisana Bank $2 October 15, 1860 IL-785 G2a. Proof. PCGS Choice About New 58 Apparent. Another very rare and attractive National Banknote Company (NBN) full color India paper proof. At center, a milkmaid with cows; lower right, a young girl with hair in ringlets. Full color frame and wide protector grill across with small "2" counters. Like most NBN color proofs, a stunner and very rare. The bank supposedly failed, yet virtually no notes are known either issued or proof. Though Apparent, this is only due to a "Small edge Tear at Bottom Right of Center." This is a gorgeous Obsolete color proof from the always sought-after National Banknote Company imprint. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
Realized $3,995.00. Newman VI (Heritage Auctions, 4/2015), lot 19053. Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions. |
