Description Thebes, IL - Eagle Bank of Illinois $1 No Date IL-815 G2a. Proof. PCGS Very Choice New 64 Apparent. The first of a trio of "eagles" from the eponymous bank. They form quite a breathtaking set of color proofs engraved by the American Banknote Company. This India paper proof has a full green frame around a micro-lettered denomination grill across the center. At center, a wide-winged Bald Eagle with shield is cupped into the curved title; at lower right, the classic dog and safe vignette. Interestingly, there is no portion of a date engraved on the plate (noted by Haxby). Boldly designed and printed, this is the finest quality of the three denominations. Apparent, but with only "Minor Stains" and Hole Punch Cancelled as made. Visually, an exciting Illinois color proof. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society. Realized $3,290.00. Newman VI (Heritage Auctions, 4/2015), lot 19054. Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions.
