Description New Orleans, LA - Citizens Bank of Louisiana $5 18__ LA-15 G10. Proof. PCGS Very Choice New 64. This is a much rarer 1830s-1840s series and type from a bank title well known for its commonly seen remainder notes printed in the early 1860s. Like all the bank's issues, the titles and denominations are in English and French. A superbly crafted proof engraved by Draper, Toppan, Longacre & Co. on India paper only. Top center shows a stone classical bank building representing financial strength. At the left, within a cartouche, is a standing allegorical female as Plenty and Navigation; at the right is a similarly placed standing female Agriculture. The left bottom corner has an intricately designed FIVE/DOLLARS counter, while the right has an equally marvelous CINQ/PIASTRES counter. Noted Hole Punch Cancelled as made, but with an excellent grade. The Haxby Plate Note was in the 1996 Western Reserve Historical Society Sale, and this type was not represented in the 1990 American Banknote Company Sale. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society. Realized $2,820.00. Newman VI (Heritage Auctions, 4/2015), lot 19080. Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions.
