||New Orleans, LA - Citizens Bank of Louisiana $100 18__ LA-15 G44. Proof. PCGS About New 50. A second rare proof from this 1830s-1840s series, known to us as proofs only, and engraved by Draper, Toppan, Longacre & Co. This is a boldly printed example on India paper with the stacked English and French title blocks flanking the bottom of the vignette. At the top center is seated Justice with reclining female allegory representing Plenty and Commerce. The end panels have the denomination in English and French respectively. The four-subject proof sheet in the 1990 American Banknote Company Archives sale was cut years ago and the individual notes long sold. The Haxby plate note was part of the same lot in the 1996 Western Reserve Sale cited above. This is a quintessential New Orleans layout on a rare type. There is some handling, visible only from the back, and some very hard to see India paper thins. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
