New Orleans, LA - Insurance Bank of W.B. Partee & Co. $2 July 1, 1851. Proof. PCGS Choice About New 58PPQ. This is a second, and the highest denomination proof, from this interesting series of 1851-dated notes. The size format is slightly smaller than standard Obsolete banknotes and is engraved by Rawdon, Wright, Hatch & Edson, New-York & N.O. Printed on India paper only, and a superbly designed type. Top center, seated Hebe pours water for an eagle, the cup balancing in the clouds At the lower left is a demure sea nymph reclining upon a seashell. This is a quite a handsome proof and the first we have seen or catalogued. Faintest handling seen only with scrutiny; the appearance is Gem. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
