||New Orleans, LA - New Orleans Gas Light Banking Company pay at Bank of America, New York $10 18__ LA-115 UNL. Proof. PCGS Very Choice New 64. The Underwood, Bald & Spencer imprint series is listed for this interesting title, but the denomination is not. The notes were intended to be payable at the Bank of America in New York, making them attractive for merchants traveling to New York City as redemption would have been convenient. A very choice India paper proof engraved using a symmetrical layout. At the top center is a standing allegorical female representing Agriculture and Commerce with a ship in the background. Flanking the vignette are charming cameo profiles with "X" counters. The ends are identical and feature an oval framed standing sailor holding a flag, titled the "Lord Byron" vignette by Obsolete banknote researcher John A. Muscalus in his series of vignette subject monographs. This example is very choice and one of four known to us; three examples were contained in the 1990 American Banknote Company sale. Noted Hole Punch Cancelled, as made, by PCGS. This is an interesting title and New York bank payable proof. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
