Description Bangor, ME - Bank of the State of Maine $10 August 1, 1851 ME-130 G10b Wait-19. PCGS Very Fine 20. A rare bank with several different types and imprint combinations. This is an earlier series using an engraved date and was printed by Toppan, Carpenter, Casilear & Co. The interesting layout shows a facing portrait of Zachary Taylor at top center over the Gothic title. At the upper left is large vignette of sailing vessels, and at the far right a small depiction of the Maine coat of arms. The orange security back has MAINE across the large center die, flanked by two smaller dies. This is listed in Haxby, but is not plated, and the type was not in the Pullen sale. This is a very rare type and in strong condition. The note was black ink stamped "CANCELED" twice lightly on the back and noted by PCGS. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society. Realized $1,645.00. Newman VI (Heritage Auctions, 4/2015), lot 19101. Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions.
