||Annapolis, MD - Farmers Bank of Maryland $10 Branch Bank Payable 18__ MD-5 G166 Shank 2.3.93P. Proof. PCGS New 62 Apparent. The Farmers Bank was located in Annapolis, but it also issued notes from branches in Easton, Elkton, and Frederick. This proof is a Branch Payable type, also engraved and printed by Draper & Co., and mounted on cardstock. The designers made it clear that this was a different series of notes by the use of a large gray shaded BRANCH across the bottom. At the top center, three men work in the hayfield. At left is a standing classically robed female as America and Plenty, and at right is a young girl holding a scythe. We have only seen proofs from this Branch Payable series and no issued notes. This is noted with "Minor Stains," which is really just some faint foxing, and Hole Punch Canceled as made. This is a very rare proof type. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
