Denomination
Description Chatfield, MN - Bank of Chatfield $3 18__ MN-20 G6 UNL Hewitt B080-D3a. Proof. PCGS Very Choice New 64. The third denomination from this bank that is also reported unique on the census. Like the others from the series, this is an India paper proof engraved by American Bank Note Company, Hole Punch Cancelled as made and plated in Hewitt with credit to the Newman collection. The series is strikingly engraved and the $3 proof here has a wonderful layout. Centered under the Gothic title is a sheep drover standing next to his trusty steed. At the bottom left is a beehive with buzzing bees symbolizing Industry. At the lower right is a lovely young woman's portrait in an oval. The note has multiple intricate lathe work devices and counters with "3" numeral gray protectors flanking the vignette. This is a very choice proof and, like so many from this incredible Minnesota proof archive, unique to the best of our knowledge. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society. Realized $8,225.00. Newman VI (Heritage Auctions, 4/2015), lot 19143. Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions.
