Denomination
Description St. Paul, MN - Marine Bank $3 18__ MN-141 G6a UNL Hewitt B660-D3b. Proof. PCGS Choice New 63. This is the third denomination from the proof quartet and another masterwork of the American Bank Note Company, printed on India paper only and the Hewitt plate note. Like all four, well styled. At the left is a train descending through a mountain range. At the lower right, a man feeds a horse while another fellow, in riding attire and seated on a barrel, reaches into a basket as a curious little girl watches. At top center is a red protector THREE over the stacked signature lines. Hole Punch Cancelled as prepared at the ABN. This is a thoughtful three-dollar proof, arguably the ultimate $3 note from the entire state. A Choice example that speaks for itself, with its current unique status unquestioned. This Obsolete banknote trophy from a most remarkable Minnesota gathering presents an amazing opportunity. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society. Realized $7,050.00. Newman VI (Heritage Auctions, 4/2015), lot 19179. Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions.
