||Pontotoc, MS - Chickasaw Land Bank $1 July 1, 1852 Kraus 14893c Leggett 4. PCGS Very Fine 35 Apparent. This is a great Indian title and a beautifully designed note, very distinctively engraved by Terry, Pelton & Co. Boston & Providence. It is an "on demand" note series and oddly did not get listed in Haxby as we believe it should have. At the top center, an Indian hunter stands proudly next to a fallen elk. At the left is an early locomotive at the station, with people standing at the platform, and at the right is a smiling girl. The upper corners have "1/ONE" crossing counters and the bottom shows ONE on shaded lathe work. This is the variant where the Clapp Bank pays out the funds. Apparent is designated due to "Hinge Repaired Edge Splits and Damage; Minor Mounting Remnants on Back." The note faces up well, despite some technical faults, and it is bright and vibrant overall.
