Description Lockport, NY - Lockport Bank & Trust Co. $2 18__ NY-1246 G4 SENC. Proof. PCGS Very Choice New 64. An exceedingly rare and distinctive Rawdon, Wright & Hatch, New-York India paper note mounted on cardstock. The bank is all SENC in Haxby with no notes illustrated. Very boldly printed, the RWH style is a bit different from what is generally encountered. At the top is seated Agriculture, flanked by "2" counters. At the left is the early style New York Comptroller's Seal for a registered note type, with seated female in oval, and detailed obligation. At the far right is seated Vulcan in his workshop. According to period Bank Note Reporters, the issued notes used red color backs, but this is not confirmed. This is Hole Punch Cancelled as made, with one incomplete punch at far left. We traced only one other example, the September 2005 CAA Gordon Harris Sale note, lot 705, which had an India paper vignette cut out and still brought $396. Deeply inked, this is extremely handsome and fifteen years later, worth multiples. A great combination of rarity, distinction and pedigree. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society. Realized $2,350.00. Newman VI (Heritage Auctions, 4/2015), lot 19247. Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions.
