Description New York, NY - Manufacturers & Merchants Bank in the City of New York $1 18__ NY-1700 G2a. Proof. PCGS Gem New 65PPQ. This is the first of three superb quality and finely designed American Bank Note Company color proofs forming an impressive trio. The bank closed, but it appears most of the circulation was redeemed, and we have seen a few issued notes from the title over a few decades. Proofed on India paper and mounted to its original cardstock. The bold vermillion title across the center forms a central wave crest over the right center vignette of seated Industry. At the upper left, a farm girl, head on folded arms, rests on a wheat sheaf. Just below is the New York Bank Seal as required. At the bottom right corner is an anchor on a wharf. The designs are framed in vermillion all around with a micro-lettered pattern across the signature blocks. Hole Punch Cancelled, through the India paper only, and as made. Boldly printed with vibrant, rich color and superb contrast. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society. Realized $2,820.00. Newman VI (Heritage Auctions, 4/2015), lot 19256.
