||Franklin, PA - Venango Bank $5 July 23, 1863 PA-145 G6a Hoober 126-3. PCGS Very Fine 20PPQ. Notes from the bank are seen occasionally, but nearly always in low grade. This $5 issued note is beautiful, bright and vibrant, with excellent style and green color devices by the American Bank Note Company. At the left is a woman, flowers in her hair, standing in a harvesting field. Lifting her skirt, she dips her toe into a stream. At the top center, under the title, is the Pennsylvania Auditor General's Seal. At the upper right is Mercury shown as a small child. Dual green "5" protectors flank the seal, and a green lathe work strip is across the bottom center. Proofs from the bank are more frequently seen than signed and issued notes. Very scarce and the finest we have encountered. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
