||Centreville, TX - Treasurer of Leon County $5 Sept. 30, 1862 Medlar 4. PCGS Fine 15. This Leon County $5 is a prize condition note of the rarer county type. Printed in blue on gray paper without an imprint. The simple text and obligation is across the note, with CENTREVILLE at the top. At far left is a shaded panel, and across the note is a red protector 5 FIVE 5. This is a tough note and worthy of close inspection as it is graded very conservatively, without accounting for the type of paper on which it was printed, its vivid color or the superior printing. It is among the finest known and should be deemed as such. There is an example in the Rowe-Barr Collection, but it does not meet this note's standards. The only example we have handled was the repaired Bill Bond collection note at the 2007 FUN Convention auction, Lot 12944, realizing $402.50. Eight years later, this note, with the Newman pedigree and unfettered by repairs, certainly merits a four-figure realization. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
