Description Seguin, TX - Treasurer of Guadalupe County $1 Aug. 20, 1862 Medlar 4. PCGS Fine 12 Apparent. This is a complex county issuer of notes with several variations among the series. In Medlar, all the notes from the county are listed as Rarity-7, but we might surmise that some are "More Rarity-7 than others," and only the most veteran Texas specialists will know them. Printed on brown paper and without imprint. Bolded ONE DOLLAR across; above and below are the obligations, dates, and signature spaces required for the note. At the far left is cartouche with GOOD FOR COUNTY DUES, commonly used in that region on a Texas County note. The notes had much wider acceptance if the population at least knew they could pay their taxes with them. At center is a blue protector "1." A beautiful looking note, but Apparent for one fault cited as a "Hinge Repaired Edge Tear at UL Corner." This example is finer than the repaired Bill Bond example sold eight years ago. Another excellent county type note. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society. Realized $1,175.00. Newman VI (Heritage Auctions, 4/2015), lot 19348. Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions.
