Woodstock, VT -Bank of Woodstock $5 May 1, 1843 VT-285 G8 SENC Coulter UNL. PCGS Very Fine 20 Apparent. An extreme rarity and the first we have seen. Engraved and printed at Rawdon, Clark & Co., Albany, a location more convenient to Vermont than New York City. At the far left is Washington. At the upper left, inside the panel, is Archimedes levering the globe off a mountain peak. At the right end are three circular dies with perpendicular FIVE DOLLARS across them. At the bottom center is a whimsical head. Apparent, and noted as having "Small Tape Repaired Edge and Internal Tears." The Haxby listings are derived in sequence with the same series of the listed $3 proof, made SENC with no data available (or NDA) noted. This discovery note confirms that SENC listing and is a first-time offering, like so many notes from the Newman collection Obsolete note albums. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
