Description Beloit, WI - Southern Bank $5 185_ WI-65 G6. Proof. PCGS Gem New 66PPQ. This is very rare Beloit bank and is known to us only as proof or rare unissued remainders. A superb layout with the excellent symmetry often seen on Danforth, Wright & Co. notes. Boldly inked and printed on India paper mounted on original cardstock. In the center is the Wisconsin comptroller's seal. To the left is a woman drawing water from a well. To the right, is regally clothed Chief Joseph Brant standing, wearing a gorget (which also could be viewed as an Indian Peace medal). Hole Punch Cancelled as prepared at DW. The Krause Collection sales had only archival remainder $1 and $10 notes from this bank. This is another virtually perfect proof and a great rarity. The Joseph Brant image is powerful. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society. Realized $3,055.00. Newman VI (Heritage Auctions, 4/2015), lot 19384. Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions.
